How did the massacre Effect the United States?
The morale in the United States was at an all time low. Anti-war radicalist were calling American soldiers "baby killers", and were putting down the American men fighting in Vietnam in any way possible besides.
Previous to the My Lai incident, the many of Americans believed that the war was coming to a close. After the news of what happened in My Lai, people no longer trusted the government. Naturally, this lead to more disapproval of the President of the time, Richard Nixon. This destroyed his reputation, and was a major reason as to why he was not re-elected.
